Maria ShapiroChief Executive Officer, FounderMaria is the CEO and Founder of E&P and K2K. She is responsible for developing the curriculum, teaching and networking with professionals in the field to bring the newest technologies to the students. She reaches out to schools promoting E&P, and seeks sponsors for the program. Maria’s background is strongly rooted in technology. From a very young age she attended technology seminars with her parents, and she started robotics and programing while still in primary school. She attended robotics and Java camps at American University. The second one with an age exception (she was not 13 years old yet at that time). The following year she attended camp at Stanford University for Advanced App Development with Google. Maria participated in girls in Engineering programs and a Space Telescope Program at the John Hopkins University. She skipped Programming 1 and took the AP exam in her sophomore year of high school. Currently she is enrolled in Programming 3, focusing on Zero Robotics – a programming competition using satellites in space sponsored by MIT. She is the current Co-President of the ThinkBig club and Vice President of Girls Who Code.
E&P was formed with the idea to give back and expose students at a young age to technology and the opportunities it brings. Maria started teaching in 2013, which formed a foundation of what currently is E&P. She curated a curriculum on how to teach 5th Graders programming that included elements from Code.org, Scratch, and intro to Java programing. Maria is constantly updating the curriculum and looking for ways to grow the organization. |

Joseph PrimmerChief Technology OfficerJoseph has had a love for technology from a young age. His interest in electronics and fascination with the world around him drove him to make, take apart, and teach himself things pertaining to technology and science. He jump started his passion for electronics and computer science when, for a 5th grade science project, he decided to prototype a binary adder (a critical component of calculators and CPUs) from discrete electronic components such as transistors and resistors. This exposed him to concepts such as computer logic and some basic principles of programming. He began self-teaching himself programming in middle school using languages such as BASIC, C, and Python on platforms such as the TI-83 calculator, BASIC Stamp, Arduino, and Raspberry-Pi. However, Joseph craved more than what he could self-teach himself, so he took classes such as robotics and animation in middle school and urged his parents to sign him up for summer camps teaching children programming and robotics. In late middle school Joseph helped lead a FIRST Lego league robotics team to 1st place in performance on a local level. Joseph has taken computer science throughout high school and has competed in competitions such as the University of Maryland High School Programming Contest and MIT’s Zero Robotics. Joseph is currently leading his high school’s Zero Robotics team. Aside from his technological endeavors and side projects (anything from robots to iPhone apps), Joseph is also a Maryland certified Emergency Medical Technician and enjoys video editing and running.
